My favorite would have to be clamshell. I love to work those glutes like crazy-and it works the inner thighs and obliques as a bonus!

Favorite Smart Barre Cue

“Lace up those abdominals like a corset!” I love visual cues like this. It really helps me focus on how I need to squeeze in my core and hold my chest up like I’m proud to be in class!

Favorite Smart Barre exercise

I have never found an ab exercise that works my abs so deeply as High C Curl! Pressing my lower spine into the ball not only strengthens and tones my abs but helps me to find length in my lower back, and it’s become my favorite part of class.

Favorite Smart Barre cue

I love when I can ask clients if they could sink “just one inch deeper” into a thigh exercise. Watching everyone simultaneously drop a little bit lower is so inspiring!

Favorite Smart Barre Exercise

Chair! Just when I think we may have done ourselves in, I try to imagine sitting on a luxurious chaise filled with clouds instead. How can such a simple movement include the total body? From our calves all the way to our upper back and biceps, this one is sure to make you shake!

Favorite Smart Barre Cue

“Put on your high heels, Ladies! Lift through the top of your crown” -because I’m fairly certain we’re all royalty…probably.

Favorite Smart Barre Exercise

Wide second is my favorite because I feel it targets the quads, hamstrings, and inner thighs. Plus when you add some leaning and twisting you get to carve out those oblique muscles in the abdominals!

Favorite Smart Barre Cue

“Open your feet into a Smart v, like a slice of pizza”.. because it makes me think it’s ok to have a slice every once and a while when I work out at Smart Barre.

I love to utilize wide second position because there are so many variations to the exercise and it gives you a nice stretch in your inner thighs.

“Keep your shoulders over your hips for a nice tall posture”… because standing a little taller can give you a feeling of pride which everyone should have after leaving a Smart Barre class!

Favorite Smart Barre Exercise

I love combining “L” shape with clamshell on the mat, and adding the band as an extra challenge. This is great for toning your hips and gluts, making those pants slide on a little easier.

Favorite Smart Barre Cue

“Just one more eight count, you can do it!” Your muscles may be shaking and fatigued, but that little push at the end means you’ve done it and it’s almost over. Warning: this may include smiles, giggles and sigh of relief!
